何英和教授简介:

Professor He obtained his Bachelor and Master of Engineering degrees Extractive Metallurgy in China, and PhD in Chemical Engineering in Australia. After completing his PhD, he worked at The University of Queensland and The University of Adelaide before joining James Cook University (JCU) where he became a tenured full professor and served as the Head of School of Engineering and Physical Sciences at JCU from 2009 to 2014 .

Professor Yinghe He has been interests in both fundamental and applied research in a variety of engineering areas including interfacial phenomena, formation of bubbles and droplets, multiphase flow processes, production of designer particles, innovative cathode materials for lithium ion batteries and acid mist formation and control in an electrowinning tankhouse. He is a Fellow of Institution of Chemical Engineers (FIChemE) and Charted Engineer (CEng), and a Fellow of Institution of Engineers Australia.

论坛主题简述:

World university ranking, increased student mobility, changing student demography, democratization of knowledge and increased public scrutiny are having profound impacts on the established practices in the higher education sector across the world. Compounding with these are the ever increasing reporting requirements with decreasing funding from all levels of governments. Competition within the sector has become intense and global. To survive in such a highly competitive environment, universities, particularly the ones less known in the general public, are devising a variety of measures aimed at improving their rankings. Publication of research findings in journals of a high impact factor is becoming an expectation of faculty members.

In this talk, I will briefly introduce James Cook University (JCU) and my experience as the Head of School of Engineering and Physical Sciences at JCU. I will then discuss my observations on some of the differences in research between Australia and China, and what is required to publish in a quality journal. I will conclude the talk with some challenges that I think the universities are facing and how we might meet these challenges.
