I. Objectives
This program aims at completing the basic training of engineer quality. The students are expected to master the basic professional knowledge & skills relate to material selection, formulation design, production process development and product and mold design, as well as to be professionals that competent for studying, developing, analyzing, managing, trading, education, manufacturing of material and product.
II. Requirements
Master of necessary instrumental knowledge such as Chinese Mandarin, application of computer and information technology, bibliographic search, scientific methodology and scientific writing. Equipped with certain knowledge of humanities, social science and economy management. Master professional knowledge of material properties, material structure, material preparation, material application and their mutual influence.
III. Instructional Approaches
1. The teaching process is divided into the basic phase and the professional phase. The basic phase focused on broadening students’ way of thinking, helping students forming the balanced knowledge structure and improving students’ cognitive ability. In the professional stage, students will be distribute to different modules according to their choices among macromolecule material, macromolecule material molding technology, metal materials and surface engineering, and function materials. The professional phase is focused on building solid knowledge bases and specialized knowledge, as well as cultivating students ability of operation and innovation.
2. This programme focused on strengthen engineering education, the training of students design ability and innovative research ability. It adapts to the training objective that emphasizes enterprise orientation and recombines the structure and content of engineering curriculum. It reduces class hours while increases the amount of information and strengthens the large-scale specialized experiments teaching. It also set up courses relate to material molding and product design as well as the teaching program of computer-aided design. It attempts to cultivate students' engineering practice ability and innovative research ability through mechanical engineering training, cognition practice, production practice, graduation programme, extracurricular scientific activities and professional competition.
3. This programme adopts tutorial system and attempts to strengthen professional mentor’ guiding role in students’ daily life, classroom learning and extracurricular scientific activities, in order to help students understand their specialty and experimentation earlier, also participate in research work and graduation programme under mentor’s guidance. It develops students’ innovative awareness and engineering development capability as well.
4. Improve teaching content and teaching method, increase students’ independent study time and enhance teaching integration, form a student-centered teaching system that focus on quality and ability development.

New material is the basis of the high technology and product development. This major is a Zhejiang province priorities discipline. The research directions available are polymer materials, polymer materials molding technology, metal materials and surface engineering, and function materials.
